Anson Martens, CPA
Assurance Principal, Plante Moran
Role: I’ll oversee the overall review engagement and client relationship, ensuring that our team works collaboratively to deliver quality and efficient service. You will regularly be in contact with me either virtually or in the field as I work with the rest of our team and your staff. I want to hear what’s going well (or not) and what issues are on your mind.
Experience: As co-leader of the firm’s greater Michigan real estate and construction practice, I assist clients in evaluating their business performance relative to industry standards, supporting strategic planning efforts to position them as best-in-class while ensuring comprehensive banking and bonding access. I oversee all aspects of the audit and review process, including initial planning, direct supervision of our teams, upholding quality standards for audit and review procedures, and ensuring prompt delivery to clients. Additionally, I advise executive leadership on establishing best-in-class financial key performance indicators to facilitate strategic planning and financial success.
My experience includes multi-entity consolidations, M&A transactions, deferred and share based compensation arrangements, revenue recognition, deferred taxes analysis, and benefit plan audits with a specialization in ESOPs. Most of my clients are commercial-based, but I am primarily focused in the construction industry who are privately owned, ESOP owned and/or private equity owned.
I have unique experience for a CPA, as I have field experience in the construction industry. I worked for roofing, plumbing, electrical, and framing contractors. I can swing a hammer, sweat pipe, and pull some wire. This gives me the unique ability to understand business operations.
Clients appreciate that I care about their business and take the time to understand how they work and why they make money. I ask the question beyond the question. Colleagues know me for having a vested interest in their career and caring for their individual growth. I’m also known as “the lunch guy.”
I was drawn to this career because of the relationships with people and providing practical solutions to complex issues. I have more than 14 years’ experience and am most proud of building and mentoring the next generation of leaders.
I was previously the president of Mid-Michigan CFMA chapter. I belong to AICPA and MICPA. I’m often asked to speak to clients and industry conferences such as the Mid-Michigan CFMA and AGC of Michigan about topics of interest to construction companies, including new accounting standards updates, company strategic planning strategies, and succession planning. I received my B.S. and M.S. in accounting from Michigan State University.
Jackie Wolff, CPA
Assurance Manager, Plante Moran
Role: I'll lead the review and ensure the engagement is executed smoothly and timely. I’ll serve as the main point of contact for coordinating fieldwork and resolving issues as they arise. I’ll ensure our staff have proper resources to perform testing and review to make sure we deliver high quality deliverables.
Experience: I am a manager with six years of experience providing assurance services. My clients primarily operate in the construction industry, including ESOP owned. I frequently work with general contractors and subcontractors in a variety of sizes and ownership structures. In addition to performing financial statement audits and reviews, I have experience with business combinations and helping clients implement new accounting standards. Outside of my work with clients, I also serve on the board of Mid-Michigan Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association.
While I love the construction industry for its opportunities to work on more technical and complex accounting matters, the most rewarding part of my role is partnering with businesses to support their accounting and finance needs. My goal is to make the audit and review processes as smooth as possible while offering valuable industry insights that help companies better serve their families, customers, employees, and communities."
